Terpenes
Terpenes are responsible for the unique aromas of individual cannabis strains. They’re also widely accepted as being responsible for some of the therapeutic properties of cannabis. Terpenoid composition differs between cannabis strains; the most common terpenes found in cannabis plants are pinene, limonene, myrcene, caryophyllene, linalool, terpinolene, and terpineol.
Limonene:
Aroma: Citrus
Effects: Elevated mood, stress relief

Terpineol:
Aroma: Floral, citrus, candy
Effects: Antioxidant, sedative, anti-inflammatory
Also Found In: Lilacs, pine trees, lime blossoms, and eucalyptus sap
Terpinolene:
Aroma: Piney, floral, herbal
Effects: Antioxidant, sedative, antibacterial, antifungal
Also Found In: Nutmeg, tea tree, conifers, apples, cumin, and lilacs
Pinene:
Aroma: Pine
Effects: Alertness, memory retention, counteracts some THC effects
Also Found In: Pine needles, rosemary, basil, parsley, dill
Linalool:
Aroma: Floral, citrus, candy
Effects: Anxiety relief and sedation
Also Found In: Lavender
Myrcene:
Aroma: Musky, earthy, herbal
Effects: Sedating, relaxing
Also found in: Mango, lemongrass, thyme and hops
Caryophyllene:
Aroma: Pepper, spicy, woody, cloves
Effects: No detectable physical effects
